Box Score
Throggs Neck, NY – It was a low scoring affair as only eight runs were scored between both teams in nine innings of collegiate baseball Wednesday afternoon at Maritime College as the Privateers dropped a tough one to the Panthers of Old Westbury 5-3 in their first meeting of the season. The Privateers will get a second chance at Westbury when they head over the bridge for a doubleheader on Saturday.

Westbury was the first to put a number on the board after freshman catcher Jamie Quinn (Massapequa, NY) came home on a wild pitch by freshman left handed pitcher James Hoffman (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) (East Islip, NY/East Islip). Trailing 3-1 heading to the bottom of the sixth innings, the Privateers began to make a push to tie things up. Sophomore right hander Zach Flinn (Levittown, NY) loaded up the bases with walking two Privateers before sophomore short stop Brenton Yockel (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) (Chili, NY/Churchvilli Chili) stepped to the plate and on a full count, singled one to the short stop bringing home a run.

Holding onto a one run lead, the Panthers came out strong in the seventh as they grabbed two more security runs that would eventually lead them to victory. This is the Panthers fifth victory in the conference and they are now 10-17 overall. The Privateers are still looking for their next win of the season and have a good chance to gain that in the rematch with Westbury on Saturday.

Before they take on Westbury, the Privateers will be hosting the Bearcats of Baruch College on Thursday in their second meeting of the season. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 pm and will be a one, nine inning game.
